“Alzheimer’s dementia in a bilingual case study: A son’s perspective”
Subject matter: Neurodiversity, acquired neurodivergence, intersectionality, neurodivergent lived experiences
Dr. Alejandro Brice is a Cuban-American immigrant (refugee). His family came to the United States in exodus from Cuba in 1960. He is a second language learner, acquired-neurodivergent, bilingual speech-language pathologist, and bilingual special educator. Alejandro experienced hearing loss at 18 years of age and in 2010, he experienced a subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) to his right vertebral artery. He has worked as a school speech-language pathologist, in private practice, and currently is at the University of South Florida (Professor in the College of Education).
Dr. Brice received the 2021 Honors of the Speech-Language-Hearing Association Award. He is the recipient of the 2011 American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Fellow Award and also the 2008 recipient of the Certificate of Recognition for Special Contributions in Multicultural Affairs of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
